The star of The Matrix Resurrection, Jonathan Grove, publicly recounted the scene of the fight with Keanu Reeves and how he banged Reeves' head against the wall. Grove in the upcoming sequel with Matrix veterans Reeves and Kelly-Anne Moss, as well as Jessica Henwick, Yahya Abdul-Medin II and Neal · Patrick Harris starred together. The Matrix Resurrections, directed and written by Lana Wachowski, premiered in cinemas and HBO Max on December 22.

In "The Matrix Resurrection", Grove played the mysterious new incarnation of Hugo Weaving’s agent Smith. Although the programmatic virus appeared to be destroyed by the machine after assimilating Neo (Reeves) in The Matrix Revolution, Smith seems to have survived the restarted Matrix digital world, although it looks like a new machine/ The conflict in the resurrection of the human Matrix, his intentions are still shrouded in mystery. The role of Grove seems to have been confirmed by the character image, and the trailer teases a battle between him and Neo, and now the star has openly confronted the legend of The Matrix.

In an interview with EW, Grove discussed shooting intense fighting scenes with Reeves. Grove recalled that when shooting the scene where Smith hit Neo’s head against the wall, Wachowski suggested that Grove should place his fingers under Reeves’ eyeballs when hitting the ball to improve the camera’s performance. Action, Reeves agreed to this change. Grove then praised the working environment on site and discussed the trust involved in creating the sequence and the respect shared between everyone during the filming process. Check out Grove's full response below.

"Lana was like,'If you could open your palms, put your fingers under Keanu's eyeballs, and hit his face against the wall, that would be great for the camera. I looked at Keanu Nu, he just gave me a nod, like,'Go.' And trust! I mean, I have to turn around, slap his face with my hand, and then smash it on this thing. I I feel that there was too much love and respect exchanged at that moment."

Grove's involvement was announced in December 2019, although the audience still didn't know his role when casting the cast. The star first appeared in many trailers, one of which is reminiscent of Smith's interrogation scene in "The Matrix" where Grove's mouth was sealed. The first trailer briefly introduced Grove's actions, focusing on showing him in his simulated San Francisco skyscraper office. The second trailer provides more action footage of Grove, while also interlacing his footage with Weaving's Smith's archive footage.

With Grove playing Smith in some new form, it is obvious that the scene between him and Reeves will be fierce, as these two rivals once again confront each other in the resurrection of The Matrix. Nevertheless, it is incredibly welcome to hear that there is a clear trust between the star and the director in the intense physical sequence. Although Grove is a newcomer to the series, both Wachowski and Reeves worked carefully with him to bring one of the film's greatest rivals back to the big screen in the most effective way.
