Don McLean announced that he will conduct an extensive world tour in 2022 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his hit song "American Pie."

McLean will start a tour in Honolulu, Hawaii in January and will continue to travel across North America before going overseas to perform in Europe. The complete list of tour dates is as follows.

"After spending the past 18 months at home, I am very happy to be back on the road with my band," McLean said in a statement. "2022 is the 50th anniversary of "American Pie"'s No. 1 on the Billboard charts, and we will celebrate on tour throughout the year. We will play all the songs from the American Pie album and many other hits that fans expect to hear song."

McLean's "American Pie" lasted 8 and a half minutes and lost the title of the longest song on the charts. With the new version of "All Too Well", Taylor Swift has become the record holder for more than 10 minutes. After the news broke, Swift sent flowers to McLean and wrote in a note: "I will never forget that I am standing on the shoulders of giants."

In an interview with USA Today, McLean called Swift "a beautiful person" with a "beautiful heart, charm and great talent." "She has been very famous for ten years or more, and suddenly entered the field of natural forces. So I am very happy to experience it through this story."

McLean pointed out in the same interview that he never really expected "American Pie" to be so successful. "It's kind of a folk song that everyone knows, this is folk song," he said. "This has always been people's choice. It has always been a phenomenon, and it is still a phenomenon."

Tickets for the upcoming tour are now on sale.
